This painting feels very regal and luxurious to me; the rich plum, royal blue and warm, velvetty orange. I imagine them adorning an Elizabethan or Tudor noble garment.
 
In true Max style, the texture is thick and full of layers and marbles of colour. He did some beautiful colour mixing for this one. He was focussed and seemed very much to have a plan for this painting, whereas with many he goes with the flow and stops when he thinks it's enough.
