This was painted by Eldest Sonshine - age 12.
A pair of ships on the sea in a storm. So incredible. As you'll know if you've read the About Us section, Eldest Sonshine (Max) has a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, sensory processing disorder and severe learning disability. He is not conversationally verbal. A lot of the time we don't know quite how much of the world he understands.
And then he paints something like this and it just takes your breath away.
When he asked to paint this day he was in a lot of pain. He was distressed and upset. Often when he's like this he asks to paint because he knows it soothes him. Watching him paint himself from pain to pleasure is such an incredible thing to behold.
I have a video of the process of this painting which you can find in the 'Artists At Work' gallery.
I'm sure you'll understand that I won't be selling the original of this powerful piece but I wanted to share the image for all those out there who resonate with this idea of being caught in a storm and staying afloat.
