Acrylic on A3 bamboo fibre paper

I love snakes.

I think they're extraordinary.

My wonderful eldest niece has a corn snake like this beauty here and his name is Gerald. This isn't Gerald but I'm naming this painting after him.

The inspiration for this piece is a photo I took at a fabulous local rare breeds farm here in Buckinghamshire called Hogshaw Farm. The reptile house there is Tristan's favourite bit and the snake is his favourite animal. He loves it when they bring him our for a very gentle pet.

It was a very therapeutic painting to do with all those repetative shapes of the scales and the serpentine curves.

The colour palette was inspired of course by the snake himself but also by my favourite fabric which is my African wrap bought for me by my dear brother during his trip there many years ago.
